On November the 19th, 2008, LLM Society organised the workshop on ‘Interpersonal skills and being assertive’. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Robin Bowden. He is responsible for the generic skills training for the PhD students at the University of Aberdeen and supports students on issues such as leadership, teamwork, programme and project management, negotiation and communication strategies.
The workshop was designed to give participants an understanding of the relevance and value of interpersonal skills and being assertive. It helped them to develop self-esteem concerning the way they work with colleagues. Apart from that leader of the seminar Mr. Robin Bowden taught us following things:
1. Recognize assertive behaviour and its positive results in the workplace
2. Know where assertiveness is an appropriate response
3. Practice some assertive skills
4. Understand the links between assertiveness, self-esteem and confidence
5. Learn how to work with difficult people and situations
Students really benefited from this workshop and asked to arrange more such useful workshops.
